OPX16 – Time zones in Automic

One night flight, three time zone questions: Why does the same Automic execution appear at a different time in Tokyo? What do the times in the activation report mean? And why might the same daily check still be pending in one flight plan but already missed in another? In OPX16, you’ll check the client’s UTC standard, change your personal time zone for testing purposes, compare script time values with report timestamps, and examine two schedule monitors. Three short exercises in the prepared Operator Test Lab.

Understanding Time Zones in Automic: UTC, CET, Tokyo and Schedule Starts

Automic Automation processes times internally in UTC. What operators see in the Automic Web Interface (AWI) depends on the user's personal Time Zone. Time Zone objects attached to Scripts and Schedules can also affect script time values or scheduled task starts. OPX16 demonstrates these differences in a short red-eye flight scenario.

In this Operator Expert lab, you will learn:

  • to check the client Time Zone on the client object and recognize the UTC fallback when the field is empty,

  • to temporarily change the displayed time of the same execution to Tokyo without changing its actual start,

  • to distinguish the time values output by a Script from the ACT report timestamps displayed in the personal Time Zone,

  • to recognize, for two Schedules with identical daily times, how their Time Zones affect the scheduled starts and the status display in Process Monitoring.

All required Automic objects are prepared in the Operator-Testlab. You will check them from an operator's perspective.
