Solution Corner #27: The new Archive Browser (Recording)

The end of the classic AE Archive Browser – welcome to the new web era. After many years, the well-known Archive Browser returns in a completely modernized version. In this webinar, Marcin will demonstrate live what has changed and how the new web-based approach simplifies working with archived AE data.

What’s New? The Archive Browser 2.0 at a Glance

The new Archive Browser is not just a simple update; it is a complete re-development as a modern web app. The tool aligns visually with the user interface of the Automic Web Interface (AWI) and is completely intuitive to use.

The key highlights and technical enhancements at a glance:

  • Modern Web UI: Significantly more user-friendly, with a look and feel tailored to the current AWI design.
  • Lightning-Fast Lucene Search: Thanks to integrated Lucene indexing, long waiting times are a thing of the past. Filters, targeted search queries, and massive data volumes are processed in seconds.
  • True Full-Text Search in Reports: You can now search directly within the contents of archived reports – a huge leap forward compared to the legacy tool.
  • Decoupled Architecture (No Direct DB Access): The Archive Browser works directly on the archived files. This makes the architecture extremely secure and completely independent of your operational Automic database.
  • Unified Archive Format: Full compatibility across various Automic versions (supporting, for example, V21, V24, and V26).
  • Lean Architecture & Easy Deployment: A lightweight Java application without a complex backend or its own database. Configuration is straightforward via files or environment variables. The tool is highly flexible and fully ready to run in Kubernetes.
  • Integrated REST API: Full access to your archive data for custom integrations, scripts (Powershell, Python, Shell), and automated workflows.
  • Simple Permissions Model: Focuses on the essentials with just two roles (Admin and Operator). The guiding principle is: Visibility = all or nothing.
  • Easy Data Import: Archive data can be flexibly provided via ZIP upload, which automatically triggers the indexing process.

Note on Performance: Since this is a Java-based application, performance with exceptionally large data sets depends heavily on the underlying infrastructure (specifically the allocated JVM memory).
