PEM Automic Learning Path: Admin Expert

Welcome to the PEM Admin Expert Learning Path
The practical learning path for advanced administrators who not only want to operate their Automic environment, but also develop it in a secure, stable and future-proof manner. In the Admin Expert Learning Path, you will delve deeper into precisely those topics that make all the difference in demanding Automic environments: Security and hardening, REST API administration, monitoring, logging, client and object lifecycle management, upgrades, performance, high availability and modern integrations. The focus is on real-world relevance. You will not only learn technical concepts, but also apply them directly in specific configuration and troubleshooting scenarios. Each lesson is structured to help you understand interrelationships, recognise typical error patterns and derive best practices directly for your own environment. All content is geared towards modern Automic environments. The main focus is on version 24, supplemented by key upgrade topics leading up to version 26, current security requirements and advanced administration tasks. What can you expect from this learning path?
This learning path covers a wide range of topics relevant to the professional operation and further development of an Automic environment.ActionPacks, installation and technical fundamentals
You will explore ActionPacks and learn how they are structured, where they are installed, and the differences between Mandant 0 and other mandants. The module also covers the ActionPack Builder, different action types such as CLI, REST and Composite, and custom repositories for ActionPacks. Current installation and update topics, such as One Installer and technical maintenance, are also included in this section.Security, Hardening and Authentication
A key focus is on securing your Automic environment. You will learn the difference between Privileged and Unprivileged Mode, understand the prerequisites and implications, and analyse the differences directly through practical exercises. In addition, you will delve into important security topics such as TLS, CAPKI, custom certificates for agents, HTTPS for AWI and REST, securing database connections, firewall concepts, vaults, and the secure integration of external systems. LDAP, LDAP Sync, advanced authentication and Single Sign-On are also covered in this section.Monitoring, Logging and Troubleshooting
You will learn how to systematically monitor your environment and analyse errors in a targeted manner. This includes traditional monitoring, logging, external logging approaches, and the analysis of typical problem scenarios such as agent-offline situations. Log analysis, network checks and a health-check-oriented mindset also play an important role here.Agents, Security and Connection Analysis
Another focus is on advanced agent security. You will work with authentication, certificates, local settings and agent installation using a company key. In doing so, you will learn not only the configuration but also practical troubleshooting for connection issues and security configurations.REST API for Administrators
The REST API is indispensable for modern administration. In this learning path, you will learn how to automate administrative tasks via the REST API, retrieve system information, create agents, manage clients, and maintain users and groups. You will work in a practical manner with typical endpoints, curl, Postman and specific administration scenarios.Clients, transports and object lifecycle management
You will explore advanced client configurations and examine shared objects, inheritance, overrides and the clean separation of clients. This is complemented by transport processes, object versioning, release management, rollback strategies and the controlled handling of object changes across different environments.Upgrades and Maintenance
The learning path covers both conventional upgrades and zero-downtime upgrade strategies. You will learn how to plan, prepare and safeguard a direct upgrade, which preliminary checks are important, and how rollback scenarios must be considered. At the same time, you will gain a solid introduction to zero-downtime upgrade concepts to keep service interruptions to a minimum. In addition, the course covers technical database maintenance, reorganisation topics and other maintenance tasks that are crucial for ensuring a stable and sustainable system state.Performance Tuning and Capacity Planning
You will learn to identify and evaluate typical performance bottlenecks. These include BusyTimes, MQ counters, database aspects, relevant INI parameters, sizing considerations, and the influence of object design and system configuration on overall performance. The aim is not only to identify performance issues, but also to be able to classify and improve them in a structured manner.High Availability and Disaster Recovery
A professional organisation needs robust concepts for ensuring system reliability. That is why you will explore high-availability architectures for the engine and agents, redundant components, failover mechanisms, and fundamental disaster recovery strategies. You will learn what matters most when it comes to planning, configuration and testing.Automation, AI and modern integrations
New topics such as Automation AI are also part of the learning path. You will gain practical insight into architecture, configuration and typical use cases. This includes, amongst other things, the integration of LLM providers, their use in scripts and objects, and initial practical use cases for AI-supported automation.Advanced Monitoring Integration and Centralised Log Management
The learning path is rounded off by advanced integration scenarios, for example for Prometheus, Grafana or centralised logging platforms. This way, you’ll learn how Automic metrics and logs can be meaningfully analysed and visualised outside the system.Your goal: PEM certificate
At the end of the learning path, a comprehensive final test awaits, which assesses your knowledge in the key areas of advanced Automic administration. Upon successful completion, you will receive your personal PEM certificate, which documents your skills as an advanced Automic administrator. What are PEM learning paths?
Our Automic learning paths are designed to offer you a structured and accessible approach to complex topics. Through clear, logical presentation, you’ll learn the key concepts step by step, supplemented by practical examples, specific configuration scenarios and hands-on exercises in our PEM Labs. Each learning path combines theory and practice so that you not only understand what you have learnt, but can apply it straight away. Each learning path concludes with a final test and a personal certification, so that you can document and demonstrate your knowledge.Who can use this learning path?
You can find details on memberships and access rights in our price overview. The Admin Expert learning path is aimed at advanced administrators who already have a solid grounding in Automic. Ideally, you will have already completed the Admin Basic learning path or have comparable practical experience. Prerequisites include a firm understanding of the core Automic components, experience with agents, AWI, clients and basic configurations, as well as initial practical experience in operating and maintaining an Automic environment.PEM – Your partner for effective Automic learning
