AIW01 - Manual Automic Installation - Windows and MSSQL

In this course lab, you’ll manually install an Automic Automation V24 system on Windows using Microsoft SQL Server. You’ll learn how database access, TLS, the Automation Engine, AWI, ServiceManager, and agents work together, and which configuration decisions are important for a stable launch. This post is intended for administrators who not only want to perform an Automic installation but also want to understand the underlying dependencies.

This article shows you how a manual installation of Automic Automation V24 on Windows with Microsoft SQL Server is structured. The focus is not only on copying files, but on understanding the technical relationships: What role does the SQL Server database play? Why does the Automation Engine need both ODBC and JDBC? How do TLS certificates, JCP, AWI and modern agents interact? And how does the ServiceManager help to start and check the Automic processes in a controlled manner?

The course is aimed at administrators, technical consultants and operators who want to reproducibly install an Automic environment on Windows or better analyze existing installations. You work with a prepared lab environment, check the database connection, set up a 64-bit System-DSN, create a PKCS#12 keystore, load initial data, configure the Automation Engine and connect AWI as well as a Java-based Windows agent.

This article is particularly helpful if you want to understand:

  • when Automic uses ODBC and when JDBC,

  • why the JCP is central for AWI and modern agents,

  • how TLS trust is established via keystore and certificate folder,

  • what role the ServiceManager plays in the operation of an Automic system,

  • how to check after startup whether the most important processes and connections are working.

The content is practical and guides you through a complete example installation. At the same time the most important insights remain transferable: you will learn not only a specific lab configuration, but the basic logic of an Automic V24 installation with Windows, SQL Server, TLS communication and ServiceManager operation.
