Solution Corner #30: V26 Regular Expression Script Functions (Recording)

In this webinar, we’ll explore a much-anticipated feature in Automic: support for regular expressions in AE Script. You will learn which new script functions are now available to you, how to use them, and when to use them. If you’re wondering what “regular expressions” are and why this feature has been in such high demand, we’ll cover that too.

V26 Regular Expression Script Functions in Automic

With Automic V26, a long-awaited feature becomes available in AE Script: support for regular expressions. In this webinar, we explain what regex is, why it is so useful for working with text patterns, and how you can use the new script functions in Automic in a practical way.

Why Regular Expressions Matter in AE Script

Regular expressions help you identify, validate, count, extract, and replace specific patterns in text. Instead of building complex string logic with many individual functions, regex allows you to work more precisely and often more robustly. This is especially useful when processing email addresses, numbers, dates, log entries, or specific text fragments in variables, reports, or text containers. The webinar starts with the basics: What are regular expressions, how are they structured, and which common building blocks should you know? From there, we move into practical regex development. We also show how tools such as RegEx101 can help you build, test, and understand regular expressions through visual feedback. Another important topic is regex flavors, as not every environment interprets regular expressions in exactly the same way. For Automic V26, it is therefore important to test with a compatible flavor.

New Regex Functions in Automic V26

The main part of the webinar focuses on the new AE Script functions in V26. You will learn how Regex Match can be used to check whether a certain pattern exists in a text, how to work with matches and capturing groups, and how to process multiple occurrences of a pattern efficiently. We also look at functions for searching, counting, and replacing text patterns. This opens up many practical use cases, including data cleanup, anonymization, validation, and structured analysis of text information.

Text Containers and Modern Text Processing

Another key focus is the expanded text processing functionality in Automic V26. In addition to the new regex functions, Unix-style functions such as Sort, Unique, Grep, Cut, Head, and Tail were introduced. These functions significantly extend what can be done with text containers and make it easier to filter, sort, and process larger amounts of text directly in AE Script.
