OP10 - Monitoring Workflows (JOBP)

Workflows are everywhere - but do you know what is the best way to monitor them in the Workflow Monitor and how to precisely intervene when it’s a necessity? In this new course, you will learn everything you need as an operator.

ℹ️ This Automic Course is part of PEM Automic and was published on April 9th 2025.

📋 Content: 3 lessons and 1 final test

🕒 Duration: Depending on your experience, around 30 minutes.

Workflows (JOBP) in Automic: Everything you need to know as an operator!

„Please help, my Workflow is blocked!“ – Not something you’ll write after the course! 🚀

Workflows are the backbone of all automation in Automic. As an operator, you will be working with them all the time - but do you really know how to read, monitor and control them effectively? Don't worry, we are not leaving you in the dark! In this comprehensive course, we'll shed light on the workflow chaos.

💡 Two detailed videos, seven practical exercises and a final quiz ensure that you not only understand workflows, but can also use them confidently in everyday operations.

📌 Part 1: Understanding workflows & mastering the workflow monitor

How are workflows structured? What types of workflows are there? And how do you find out what exactly goes on inside a workflow? The first video will provide you with the basics:

  • What is a workflow and how does it work?
  • Different workflow types: Standard, FOREACH and IF
  • The workflow monitor: opening, navigating and understanding
  • Live demo: how to analyze past workflow executions

But of course, you can't do without a good example! Our coffee workflow helps you to understand workflows in a very practical way - including nested sub-workflows and an external dependency.

📌 Part 2: A deeper dive - task status, properties & operator actions

The second video gets down to the nitty-gritty:

  • What colors are there in the workflow monitor and what do they mean?
  • How do you recognize blocked workflows and find errors?
  • Task properties: runtimes, dependencies and calendar conditions
  • Operator tools: Cancel, set breakpoints and restart tasks

Here, too, it's not purely theoretical: you can see how the workflow status and task properties behave in practice directly from the coffee workflow.

📌 Practice section: Seven exercises for real operator skills!

Just watching the videos? Not our case! Try out what you've learned yourself in seven structured exercises:

  • Start the workflow and analyze it in the workflow monitor
  • Find blocked workflows and understand the “status in parent”
  • Set breakpoints, unblock tasks and restart tasks
  • Work your way through random errors - until your workflow finally runs all the way to completion!

At the end, closing questions await to test your knowledge. Will you pass? If so, go ahead and get yourself a coffee!

🔍 In conclusion: Your workflow is up and running - and you have everything under control!

After this course, you will be able to confidently deal with workflows, recognize problems more quickly and intervene when necessary.

Check it out now and master the workflow monitor!
