AD08 - Client Management

Clients are the backbone of your Automic organisation – yet many of their functions remain in the shadows. In this article, we show you how to properly create, configure and manage new clients. This includes Client 0, UC_CLIENT_SETTINGS and central object access. After watching this video, you will know exactly where everything belongs – and why.

What exactly are clients in Automic?

If you work with Automic, you're bound to have encountered them: clients – also known as clients. But what exactly is behind this central concept? And why does the mysterious client 0 play such an important role? In this article, you'll learn everything you need to know about the client structure in Automic Automation: from the basics to specific configuration and best practices for everyday work.

Structure, security and order in the Automic system

Clients are self-contained areas in your Automic system – with their own users, objects and settings. They ensure clear separation, greater security and structured administration. Whether you want to clearly separate departments, markets or environments such as DEV, TEST and PROD, clients make it possible. System client 0 is a special case. Here you can create new clients, define global settings and centralise your administration. The other clients inherit these settings – if you want them to.

Creating and configuring clients

In this article, we will show you step by step how to:
  • create a new client in Automic
  • move the first user
  • perform the central configuration with UC_CLIENT_SETTINGS
  • and activate utilities such as Archive & Reorg for each client
