🧼 Automic in private: Recurring operations & Events explained simply

Two elegant alternatives to Schedule

If you want to start tasks at short intervals in Automic Automation, you might first think of the Schedule object (JSCH). But what if you need an action every few minutes – without a schedule with dozens of entries? This is where two powerful alternatives come into play: C_PERIOD and EVNT. Both ensure regular or event-driven executions – but in very different ways. In this article, we'll show you how they work, how they differ, and when you should choose which approach.

Straight from the operator's everyday life: The Cleanus-2000 scenario

To keep things from getting too dry, we're bringing some humor into play – more specifically, into the restroom. In our demo example, Automic controls the cleaning of a public restroom. The friendly cleaning robot Cleanus 2000 ensures cleanliness – supported by recurring executions and events. Whether regular feedback checks or time-controlled major cleaning: Cleanus obediently follows the instructions from Automic. Our system even responds to on-spot, negative feedback at the touch of a button – with a File Event that immediately initiates additional cleaning.

Learn how to manage tasks in a clever way

In this course you will learn:

  • How to configure C_PERIODs correctly: interval, time window, overlap, etc.
  • What Time Events and File Events can do – within workflows or as standalone triggers.
  • The similarities and differences between C_PERIOD and EVNT – and what that means for you in terms of monitoring.
  • How to monitor, change, and stop ongoing executions – without any magic.
