OP003 - The structure of Automic
Discover the world of Automic: A simple guide for beginners
Welcome to the fascinating world of automation! If you're new to Automic or just want to brush up on your knowledge, you've come to the right place. In this tutorial, Philipp will explain the basics of the Automic system, the importance of clients and agents, and how to use the Automic Web Interface (AWI). Let's take a look behind the scenes of this powerful automation software together! What is an Automic system?
To begin with, what exactly is an Automic system? In short, it is an installation of the ‘Automation Engine’ software that is operated together with an associated database. In most cases, you will encounter two such systems: one for production and another for testing. These systems are not only labelled according to their function, but also with specific names, such as AUTOMIC-T for the test system and AUTOMIC-P for the production system.Clients within an Automic system
Clients are a central concept in Automic. They represent a logical and software-based separation within the same Automic system. Each client is independent and the names range from 0 to 9999, with client 0 reserved for administrative purposes. The use of multiple clients makes it possible to separate processes in a data protection-compliant and organised manner for different countries or company divisions without the need for multiple physical systems. The role of the Automic agents
The real magic of Automic comes into play when it comes to the remote execution of tasks. This is made possible by so-called ‘Automic agents’. These agents are software components that are installed on servers and connect to the Automic system when activated. An administrator can assign these agents to different clients, enabling flexible and secure task execution across multiple clients.Working with the Automic Web Interface (AWI)
As an Automic user, you will mainly work with the Automic Web Interface (AWI). This is a browser-based application that allows you to log in to your Automic system and manage tasks. It is important that you select the correct combination of system and client to gain access to the right resources.Automic learning with PEM Automic
